High-Level Jiu-Jitsu. Small-School Community.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art built around leverage, positioning, control, escapes and submissions. It gives students the ability to solve problems against a resisting opponent while developing fitness, confidence and a skill set that continues to grow for years.
At Wachusett Martial Arts, our BJJ program combines something we think is pretty special: the personal attention and community of a smaller local school with a direct connection to one of the most established Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs in Central Massachusetts.
WMA's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program operates in partnership with Worcester MMA and Professor Dan Simmler. That relationship gives our students access to a much larger BJJ network while still being able to train close to home in the smaller, welcoming environment that defines WMA.
Lineage matters in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu because it tells you where the instruction comes from.
Dan Simmler began competing in grappling in 1999 and has competed extensively at the national and international level. He was nationally ranked in the top five among U.S. competitors for eleven years, including four years at #1, and has medaled internationally at every belt level.
Dan earned his BJJ black belt through Matt and Nick Serra and Renzo Gracie, connecting the program directly to one of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's best-known lineages. Worcester MMA also identifies its grappling program with the Serra BJJ and Renzo Gracie lineage.
